Nightwoods Rubaiyat

Nightwoods Rubaiyat

A dusting of new-fallen snow
sets winter woodland all aglow
in moonlight's iridescent clause;
so peacefully, the snowflakes flow.

A cautious deer in quiet pause
gives credence to Creation's laws,
as silently in lambent sheen-
the deer peers through an air-like gauze.

An owl swoops into the scene
enlaced in winter white, serene;
a hooting echo fills the night.
For prey, keen eyes shall scan and glean.

A fox trots on in searching might
back to its den 'fore dawning light;
all forest birds sleep sound in nests,
for all within the woodland's right...

and oh the trees, how they do rest;
the birches, pines and oaks attest-
God's creatures all are welcome guests...
God's creatures all are welcome guests...

(Inspired by the Robert Frost rubaiyat, 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.)
