Trying To Stay Cool

by Jean Mollett

Trying to stay cool,
it all started about 1pm our time here in
Nashville, Tn. Went to get the mail, noticed
some clouds a little dark on the bottom.
About 1 hr or so later, I noticed the
clouds getting darker and building up around.
Everything was okay, hadn't heard any thunder
yet. I was sitting with my feet and legs propped
up on the bed. I had fixed a tomato
and egg sandwich, cause I was getting
hungry. I ate light this morning toast,
later a banana.

Trying to stay cool,
the power kicked off for about 5 mins,
back on. Then about 5 mins or so, the
power went off again. I was hoping and
praying how soon it would come back on.
I had only heard a little of thunder and
nothing else. It's not storming yet and
the power goes off. Someone may have hit
a pole up the street . Or a
squirrel could have got in trouble with
the lines or the box. It was off for
about 3 hours.

Trying to stay cool,
boy it's a hot day outside, it's getting
warm in here. I can feel the heat in my
chest. Trying not to do much, to stay still
and stay cool. It's not easy. I'll have to
go to something even cooler to wear. It
ain't easy. Cool thoughts, to help ya not
to think about the heat. I'll get something
cold to drink. Maybe, ice cream will do the
trick. Oh thank goodness, the power's back
on. How do you spell relief? Waited about
20 mins, before I turn the switch back on
for the air. Boy, it sure feels better
now. It's getting cool again.
How sweet it is!!

Author's Note: This happened on July 28, 03 Monday afternoon. Yeah, I know we're spoiled to the air. But, when ya can't stand the heat. What do ya do?

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
