Her Daily Routine

by Jean Mollett

Her daily routine,
each day usually starts out stretching,
yawning. Scratching and thumping with her
foot like a sewing machine. Banging with her tail,
with excitement, glad to see us. Whether getting
up or down, I'll hear moaning, groaning. Seeing
what she can get into. If no ones up, unless she
needs something, she'll go back to sleep. Or grab
a chew bone or toy to play. Wanting to play or
start whining to go out to potty. Eat her food
and drink her water. Jumping up on us as we enter
the room, wiggling all over. Wants to play at
anytime day or night.

Her daily routine,
sometimes I don't know what to expect.
Has to check out everything mommy's doing.
Put her two cents into it or a big paw,
her nose. If ya bend over doing anything,
she's right there between your legs looking
to see what going on. Gotta be careful, she'll
check ya out, by sticking her nose up the
crack of the butt or front. Trying to break
that habit, not much luck yet. Guess it's
natural for them to do that, cause they
check each other out. Or if standing
and working on something, right between
the feet she'll be.

Her daily routine,
if something hits the floor, it's gone.
Before ya can grab it, her nose has already
smelled it. She's done grabbed it and gone
with it. And smack her lips, with like a smile.
Hah, hah, I got it, I got it. Checking out the
floor, hoping to find some more. Looking up at
me, can I have it, oh please Mommy. She knows
that a big time no no. Gotta be really quick
to beat her there first. Found out for sure,
her senses are very sharp, smell, hearing,
sight. Faster than greased lighting too.
Sometimes, I laugh til I cry at the
things she'll do.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
