TheThing Called Alzheimer's Disease
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By J. Mollett
Other Poems by J. Mollett

This thing called Alzheimer's disease;
I just got the news about a very close
loved one. On Wednesday evening, June
18, 03 shocked from hearing. It
was the last thing we expected;
To know the disease will take over
completely. There's no cure for it.

This thing called Alzheimer's disease;
there's only medication to help slow down
the effects of the disease; It doesn't
always help.
She has the fast acting type;
there's a slower type. The disease has
already taken things away for her; she
doesn't want to go out anywhere anymore;
Not able to go grocery shopping,
not cleaning or cooking.
At times she can't comprehend what's being
said to her.

This thing called Alzheimer's disease;
she has a care giver coming in 5 days a
week. The doctor said Hospice Care is next;
but he won't order it 'til he feels it's
time. Then they both will need care
24 hours a day, will have to go to a
nursing home. Will have to be watched
closely, will have no control over
anything. They can't help it, not able to
do for themselves anymore. They will forget
everything. Will never be the same again.
Need lots of praying.

Author's Note: There's alot of information
on line to read. Learn more about it to help
understand the disease. I didn't reveal
who the person is, because family may
come to this site. Not wanting to upset
anyone. But, I just have to write about it.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
