My Best Friend Had A Close Call (A Story)

by Jean Mollett

My best friend had a close call,
I kept trying to reach Louise. I called
her Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, no
answer. Thought maybe she was out with
someone or took a short trip. I went to
church Sunday morning and evening. Hadn't
heard from her. I'll call her again sunday
evening after church, cause I knew she
would be gone that morning. Sometimes,
Louise goes somewhere after church in the
mornings. She doesn't live close where I
can go check on her, after moving away.

My best friend had a close call,
after church sunday evening. I  came
home, was changing clothes and the phone
rings. I got the call at 7:15 pm, it was
Louise's cousin Lilian, everyone calls her
Sis. We started talking, Sis told me about
Louise being in the hospital. She had been
there since Friday evening. She began to
tell me why, I was really shocked and
worried. I called my Pastor.

My best friend had a close call,
Louise was in the hospital, because she
had a heart attack. Sis, just home
from the hospital herself. I told Sis, no
one had called me, I didn't know. I called
Louise at the hospital, sunday evening. I
went to see her, stayed all day into evening.
Her tests were done, got the results. She went
home, no surgery, just medicines to take.

My best friend had a close call,
I sure was upset, cause no one called me sooner.
I didn't say anything to her family members,
cause I knew I would get angry and upset again.
Louise, is more impotant than  worrying
about that  She didn't need to get upset or
stressed out more. I was more concerned about
her. I love her, I consider her as one
of my sisters. She's my sister.

Author's Note: This happened back in April 03. Louise was in the hospital, I wrote this about 2 weeks after she got out. On Easter Sunday, I've rewritten it some. It may still need some work.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
