Our Freedom of Religion

Our Freedom of Religion

One Wednesday evening at church,
Something very unusual happened.
As I came thru the main doors,
I noticed the doors were closed inside.
Suddenly, Mary came out and whispered,
Very low to me, take this candle,
Go inside, be very, very quiet, no noises.
There were others inside chatting among theirselves.
Tonight is our World Mission night.

After going to the World Mission nights,
I haven't had the experience before.
There was and still is a great deal to learn.
This one peculiar night, I had no idea
What Mary had planned for Mission night.
With the room dark, except her carrying a flashlight
Mary came in, started telling about this night.
She started telling us about, what had happened,
In this foriegn country.
Religion was against the law, no preaching about the Lord,
Not even a mention of the Bible.

There was a death sentence to anyone who did,
Many have never returned, no reports on them.
Some were being held prisoners, some
Barely escape with their lives.
The two women were just barely saved,
Got to return home to their famlies.
The couple that was captured, her husband
Was killed, trying to save them, the wife alive.
She's enduring the pain of losing her husband.
'Til I went to our World mission nights,
I didn't realize how horrible it was.
People fighting to stay alive, trying to
Help others to reach out to our Lord.
I started reading books about Missionary people.

Mary setup a demonstration on how
Some situations were in these countries.
What she said, read to us and what
We witness, wakens you up to the truth.
It made me realize, just how much we do
Take our faith and freedom for granted.
I wouldn't want to imagine what it would be like,
If it happened in our country.
Maybe that's another reason ours is hated so much,
Among other reasons. So sad, very sad.
May the Lord keep protectng us,
So we will never have to find out what it's like.

Someday soon, Peace will reign all
Over the world. Amen.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
