Ode To Sparky

Ode to Sparky,
it had been awhile since my last
parakeet, Sidney died. I said, I
didn't want anymore parakeets. It
hurts too much. But, the day that
my hubby and Mom came with a big
surprise. Seven days before my
birthday, I received a big box.

Ode to Sparky,
I had no idea what these two were
up to. The top of the box was a
little loose, I set it down, lifted
up the lids. I found a bird cage,
with a beautiful green, yellow and
black parakeet. Purple spots on each
side of his face. Yes, the parakeet
was a male one. I took one look at
him. "How could I not love and want
him?" Everything, he needed was in
the cage already.

Ode to Sparky,
little did I know what I was in
store for. Then I had to figure
out a name for this parakeet. I
came up with the name, Sparky. With
all his little tricks, getting out of
a cage with the door shut. Picking up
puzzle pieces, trying to take it apart.
Running back and forth, with my finger
chasing him. Looked like a duck waddling
each way. Chirping, yaking up a storm.
Laughing so hard, at some of the things
Sparky would do. I wiggle my finger,
Sparky would try to feed it. Guess he
thought it was a baby.

Ode to Sparky,
sitting on my shoulder, love to pick
at my ear rings. Specially the red color,
he loved it. If I had my Christmas bell
ear rings and necklace on, Sparky would
play with it. From the day he arrived,
til now. Sparky has brought so much joy
to my life. He passed away this evening.
Dec. 15, 03, he would have been 12 yrs old.

Ode to Sparky,
he'll be missed ever so much. The hardest
thing I had to do, I lifted him out of the
cage. I fixed up a box, lined it for warmth,
put him in it. Put his toy bird beside him
and a beaded plastic heart too. From my
grand daughter for Sparky. She gave it to me,
when we were there in Sept. Then I dug a place
to bury him, said a prayer, like a funeral
for him.

Author's Notes: No matter what your pet
is, they become a part of the family.
There's a loss, you grieve over them too.
Some people may think it's silly to grieve
over a pet, it's an animal. It's not silly.
They're a part of you as well as part
of the family. It still hurts.
