Church Family Cookout

On Sunday evening 6pm, Aug 25, 2002,
Was our last Church family Cookout.
I arrived just a few was there, the grill
heating up. They had problems, then was running
late cause it didn't fire up well. Had to start
it up again, but that was okay. Everyone started
trailing in, one right after the other. Busy
getting the goods setup on the table,
everyone just having a good ole time.
The crowd wasn't big, but we still had our
fellowship, some call it a Family Social.
Even saw and talked to someone I hadn't seen
in awhile.

I missed the first one, but I made it to
the second Church Family Cookout. And to the last
one too, the weather wasn't too bad. A little warm,
Children playing, more coming in the doors.
The kitchen door sure got a workout,
stayed pretty busy all the time.
Everyone more relaxed, dressed comfortable,
just being themselves, enjoying it all.
Once in awhile, I'd hear "we need
more hot dogs, hamburgers". Are they ready to
be cooked? Everyone chatting away, others making
sure we had all our supplies setup on the table.
Everything set, just waiting for the food from
the grill.

Then we heard, "hotdogs ready, burgers
on the way in too". Some got their food
went outside, some stayed inside enjoying each
others company. Had plenty to eat, hotdogs, burgers,
about four kinds of potatoe chips, salsa, baked beans,
mac & cheese, several other items. Ice cream,
with the toppings, Oreo cookies, ice cream
sandwiches, sodas, ice tea. Lots of watermelon
to eat, already cut.

The evening came to an end, poeple leaving, resting,
time to clean up. Saying bye to each other, 'til
Church comes again, plenty of Fellowship.
It didn't rain or storm that evening, a little warm
but nice weather for it. What a wonderful way to
end your day, being among friends, sharing fellowship.
Makes ya feel good inside and out. Wonder if the Lord,
had a great time watching over us. Sure he did!!
Wonder if the Lord likes hot dogs and burgers!!
Thank you, Lord.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
