Here Come the Blackeyed Peas

Here Come the Blackeyed Peas

Here come the Blackeyed Peas again,
to go with the New Year's dinner. I
fixed them a good while back, and they
didn't taste so good. For some reason,
there just a flat tasting pea. I prefer
white beans, pinto beans, pork-in-beans.
Oh yes, just in case no one knew, the pork
-in-beans in the can. Is white beans in
tomato sauce. They seem more firm than
the white beans. If any doubts, read the
label on the can.

Anyway, back to the Blackeyed Peas.
Here come the Blackeyed Peas again,
I had a package left in the freezer.
Being New Years, I decided to fix them.
I remembered how the first batch tasted,
so I added more to it. After I had washed,
started to boil, soaked them 1 hour with
baking soda. I did them like any beans.
Rinse well, put them back in boiling water,
added half green pepper. Then some orginal
Mrs. Dash spices, and garlic powder. Let it
start cooking again, then I put in some ham
chopped in bite size pieces, and some smaller.
They turned out pretty good, better than the
first. I said thank you, Lord.

About the Poet
I'm married. I am a grandmother. I love poetry, reading and writing it. Someone inspired me to start writing poetry again. That person is my Pastor.
