The Great Return

Dedicated to Hunter Darden

She provided the inspiration for this poem

to heal a life that's torn apart

we have to begin with the mind and the heart

if we shall live the life we ought

it is necessary to change our pattern of thought

if where we are isn't where we want to be

we can choose what to do with adversity

sinking deeper in life's deceptive quicksand

we can allow Jesus to take us by the hand

in order to be freed from this spiritual mire

we must submit to this power that's higher

with arms outstretched, all struggling will cease

only through Jesus, do we experience everlasting peace

we must change this habit of negative thinking

if we are to keep our soul from sinking

sometimes, we must joyfully act - yes, play the part

acting joyfully is a very fine place to start

we must think joyful thoughts to be joyful

joy comes from The Lord - not The Teufel

joy, joy, indescribable joy - it is for joy we yearn

to turn adversity into joy is the great return!

Author's Note: The word teufel (toy-ful) means devil in German

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
