Sorrow Turned to Praise

Sorrow Turned to Praise

yes, my friend – I know about sorrow
it was mine – no one else’s did I steal or borrow
at times, it was gone – or so I assumed
dead and buried – but then exhumed
again the grief and sorrow would appear
cold, lonely, trembling, full of fear
on a hot, summer day in June
I began to change my tune
awakened to a bright, sunshiny day
somehow – I never forgot to pray
a new purpose in this life of mine
from inside, a light began to shine
slowly the butterfly would emerge
ever so softly, the LORD continued to urge
stretching, struggling, constantly changing
the patterns in my life were rearranging
no longer sorrow, sadness and despair
faith, hope, and love lingered there
this butterfly still stretching her wings
the LORD’s praises she forever sings
yes, my friend – I remember the sorrowful days
now you remember how sorrow turned to praise

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
