Prisoners and Slaves

Prisoners and Slaves

held captive within one's own mind
is a life of a terrible kind

weighty blanket of unforgiveness slowly smothers
a life intended for service to others

rusty shackles of fear, connected to chains of doubt
grip the hands of one writhing to get out

thanks to Beelzebub
those shackles chaff and scrub

his fingers clamp tighter around your throat
he's ready to boast and gloat

believe me, there is hope
for one on the edge, struggling to cope

summon the strength from deep within
ask God to forgive you of your sin

whisper to Him that in Him you believe
and He will cause this agony to leave

one of God's greatest thrills, you see
is to set a prisoner free

free from prison, but now a slave, you see
slavery to God enables us fully to be
what we were intended to be!

Galations 5:13-14
You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: Love your neighbor as yourself.

Romans 6:22-23
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our LORD.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
