My Soulmate

My Soulmate

On a blind date
I found my soulmate.
So slim and trim.
Eyes and senses absorbed him.
Heart inside did flutter.
Not a syllable could I utter.
Handsome and sweet.
Never before did I think we would meet.
To my Lord and him have I always been faithful
Humble and true and ever so grateful.
Pleasure it’s been a military wife
Thank God he’s a special part of my life.
Our two children we adore.
Love deeper than ever before.
Uncle Sam sent him to war.
It cut me to the core.
A year in the Arabian Desert he stayed.
Back home in Virginia, every day I prayed.
The home fires I kept burning.
Always for him I was yearning.
Around him a hedge of protection.
Never once to experience rejection.
My soulmate do I cherish.
In the war he did not perish.
The Air Force made him choose
His family or career to lose.
Again to the desert they said he would go.
This time he told them no.
The rest of the story I can not tell
Until we have lived it well.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
