You Can’t Miss What You Never Had,

You Can't Miss What You Never Had

Never saw his face or
beside him said the grace.
Never got a goodnight kiss or
memories to miss.
Never bounced upon his knee or
the color of his hair to see.
Never got a warm embrace or
from him a nightmare to erase.
Never drove her down the street or
a boyfriend ever to greet.
Never a favorite story to tell or
bid a fond farewell.
Never saw the look of love or
shared the stars above.
Never walked her down the aisle or
glimpsed a veiled smile.
Never a grandchild to hold with withered hand or
or beside her ever to stand.
Never his daughter did he know or
any affection did he show.
Never cared for in a hospital bed or
felt her hand upon his head.
Never saw a tear in her eye or
gave her a chance to say goodbye.
You can’t miss what you never had, or can you?

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
