Scriptural Prescription

Scriptural Prescription

when you're sick and ailing

and you feel like wailing

you reach for the bottle

of medicine prescribed by Dr. Cottle

desperate, you'll try anything

regardless of the side effects it may bring

if one brand doesn't do the trick

another may cure what makes you sick

do you have faith in your provider

or do your doubts grow wider

even with drugs, you still feel out of sorts

maybe you've tried everything, including medicinal worts

if there's unforgiveness in your soul

it will keep you from feeling whole

search your heart and you may find

a dose of forgiveness will help you unwind

forgiveness doesn't cost a single dime

all it costs is your time

I'm no doctor, but I know the cure

believe me, of this I'm very sure

all it takes is a dose of forgiveness, if you please

to keep you healthy in body and mind

the best medicines are the scriptural kind

forgiveness, humility, a grateful heart

these things will keep you from falling apart

at first, these pills may be hard to swallow

you'll get better every day when Jesus you follow

He's the one - The Great Physician

He wants you to maintain a healthy disposition

keep forgiveness close at hand

it can secure your place in the Promised Land

do you have faith in this scriptural prescription

hand in hand are forgiveness and redemption

Matthew 18:21-22

...."Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me?   Up to seven times?"  Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

Colossians 1:13-14

For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
