Too Loosely Used

Too Loosely Used

me thinks I must protest

and believe me, I do not jest

I do not speak today in haste

however, I find complete and utter distaste

I do my best not to judge

but from this belief I will not budge

painfully aware in this day and age

this definition must have slipped off  Webster's page

this word today too loosely used

torn apart and badly abused

so easily slips off the tongue

and to some no more important than cow dung

I hear it said and I know it's not sincere

it's about more than I can stand to hear

is it blatantly said

or do they not get it through their head

to say "I am a Christian" what do they really mean??

I try my best some truth to glean

so easy to say, but their lives don't reflect it

these insincere hearts, I fear one day they'll regret it

to understand, I really try

but a true Christian life they do not exemplify

I fear the term "Christian" is too loosely used

and to say the least, I'm not amused

Matthew 23:28

In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
