The Old Man in the Window

The Old Man in the Window

the true image in the window is Jesus
sometimes another image is revealed to us

there's an old man who stands in the window
who is he - what's his story
a hat rests upon his head
thin, white hair peaks from the rim
long, flowing beard falls upon his chest
pale skin covers his high cheek bones
his thoughtful gaze never shifts from Jesus
always dressed in the same gray suit
standing erect; fingers clasped in front of him
obviously quite aged; such wisdom behind his eyes
if only I could discern more about this curious man
this steady, unchanging man
his thoughtful gaze never shifts from Jesus
never a word have I heard him speak
did the designer intentionally place him in the window
or never have a clue the old man stands there
does anyone else see this old man
or is it only me who sees him
every Sunday from my seat in the choir loft
I see the old man in the window
the old man in the stained glass window

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
