Land of Milk and Honey

Land of Milk and Honey

years in a dysfunctional relationship - trapped

an understatement - to say it wasn't apt

though seasons changed around me, I was in a desert, parched and dry

no doubt in my mind, God heard my cry

blessings came my way when he took me by the hand

through my soulmate, God took me to a foreign land

over 20 years travelling from there to here

today I understood perfectly clear

a comparison came into my head

the Israelites from Egypt finally fled

God brought me to the land where dairy farms abound

to hear the honey bee is a lovely sound

as well, the Israelites were fed manna, not money

God brought me to the land of milk and honey

fresh milk and honey from the hive

I'm so glad to be alive

Read Exodus 3:7-8

Author's note: After you read these verses, please read a poem I wrote entitled "A Spacious Place" to further your understanding of the ways God works miracles in our lives when we truly believe in Him.

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
