The Angel in Wal-mart

The Angel in Wal-Mart

God puts me where He needs me

when He needs me there

for as long as He needs me there - Nan Forehand

this story is true

God told me to share it

so I'm telling it just for you

angels do exist

they come in all shapes and sizes

you can encounter them when you don't resist

I met one in a Wal-mart in Virginia

disguised as a friendly cashier

believe me - I'm not kiddin' ya

my daughter and I were waiting in a check out line

the angel said "come here - I'll check you out"

the sparkle in her eyes was bright as sunshine

as she performed her task, we began to converse

my daughter mentioned her upcoming Youth Mission trip

this angel named Marilyn shared a special Bible verse

she told my child - "God will use you in an amazing way"

wisdom and insight the angel shared

I'll never forget the verse etched on my heart that day

little did this lady know

in a few short weeks

my Air Force husband to the desert would go

for a whole year he'd be stationed there

God spoke to me through her

a prime example that he will always care

we left that Wal-mart uplifted and feeling fine

she quoted that verse and took her time

amazingly, behind us there was no line

just His angel, my daughter and I

a teen and two women of different color

God used them to help me and that's no lie

Marilyn provided the service I really needed

didn't hesitate when she heard Him call

opened her heart and her mouth as His instructions she heeded

remember this verse for the rest of your life

she shared with us and now I share with you

it comes from Isaiah, providing comfort midst strife

the angel in Wal-mart

was there for a short time

but she will always be near and dear to my heart

Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

two days after my husband's flight

we prepared as best we could

to batten down for Hurricane Isabelle's fight

the year began with a hurricane

and as the months ensued

there would be heartaches and pain

too many tales to mention - events both awesome and bad

through it all, I remembered this verse

encouraging me  when I was overworked, overwhelmed and sad

as the year came to an end

thank God my husband came home

but Hurricane Ivan brought rain and wind

it was headed straight for our new base

I didn't worry; just trusted what God had said

to this day I recall the angel's face

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
