My Mama's Flying Free
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

My Mama's Flying Free Right Now

twenty three years ago today

my sweet Mama was laid to rest

now I have something profound to say

on my way home, time to reminisce

a one-sided conversation ensued

this wonderful lady I surely do miss

I asked her, "as an angel, what have you done"

without a doubt, my query she heard

"my child, I've been having fun"

a beautiful hot air balloon rose above the trees

merely a coincidence or heavenly sign

she takes delight in the patchwork earth, floating on the breeze

I laughed out loud and grinned from ear to ear

Mama spoke to me in an extraordinary way

oh, yes, her message was clear

she took the time to listen

I still love her so

my eyes began to glisten

my Mama's not dead, you see

remember the example of  the hot air balloon

she's an angel of God and she's flying free

Mama, I'll always love you

About the Poet
I grew up in rural North Carolina, married for 38 years to my best friend and soulmate, Allen, who retired almost 17 years ago from the Air Force after 24 years of service to our beloved America. We have a daughter, Ashley ( and son-in-law, Kris) and, a son, John, and, our two beautiful grand daughters, Amelia and Haley, and Isaac, our only grandson, all blessings from God. We have four cats; Mr. Peabody, Missy, aka Middle Kitty and Tabby, aka Little Kitty, and Gracie. I've seen a lot of hard times and God has always been here for me to see me through them. I am a vessel God can use to help others in need. If I could be described in one word, it would be that I am an encourager.
