We looked together toward the future
In love and faith each the other to nurture

I faced then the back of the chapel
Seeing "My Dream" walk on the arm of her uncle

After vows we knelt for Holy Communion
The first meal of our holy union

Thirty eight years Barbara and I braved this life
Sometimes in joy, occasionally in strife

But the deepening of love and faith
Held us to our wedding troth

She left me then on a Spring day
Winters of suffering no longer to pay

Winter's evenings now recall
The one I loved on earth most of all
