They'll Be Home For Christmas

They'll be home for Christmas
The house decorations all aglow
The smells of baking lingering in the air
Plates of seafoam, homemade chocolates, and carmels
hidden somewhere

Many presents already wrapped anxiously waiting under the tree
Smiling faces, heads and hearts full of good cheer
Waiting for St. Nicholas to appear
The faces begin as so young, my mirror shows a little lad,

Dissolves into an older face still full of anticipation there
Then an adult face appears and grows older still
Faces once full of keen Christmas delight
Now seeing themselves in their children's eyes

But they'll be home for Christmas
In a bittersweet reverie
