Snoring Cat
By: Laurie Ragan Jenkins

In a little foam
Hand-me-down chair
Speckled with purple dinosaurs
Sleeps a snoring fat
Orange, yellowish cat
Eyes squeezed shut
The light seems bothering him
On his face a big wide grin
Do cats have dreams I often wonder
While he lies sleeping beside my computer
Dreaming of this mouse at my fingertips
Is that what forms his smiling lips
He heard tale there was a mouse up here
As I look down at him I have to smile
With fondest memories of our first meeting
Childhood fears plaguing every cat encountered
This beautiful little ferocious kitty
Streaks across my back yard days on end
Until a strong desire speaks to own him
Fight this silliest fear
Tantalize with yummies
Have that little kitty living here
The fear is gone
The cat snores at home
God always speaks of fighting fear
Maybe that's his dream
While he's sleeping near
Snoring away fighting his owner's fear
Comfortable in his hand-me-down chair
Ferocious cat into treasured friend
Dreaming cat dreams while living here
