Winter Snow

Winter outside my window, the snow’s softly falling;

A fire in my hearth, its flickering ‘n calling

‘Come sit for a while and dream if you will…’

While snow gathers silently upon the sill.

The winds gusts briefly, stirring clouds of snow,

To flurry and scurry from rooftops blow…

Swirling and curling, off they go!

Gray skies linger for days ‘n days,

Distant hills sleep in a gauzy haze.

Purple shadows fall across my lawn,

Cold mornings awaken at winter’s dawn.

Peaceful my soul, to rest for this season,

Tucked in my nest while outside it’s freezin’.

Awaiting the day when the green grass will grow,

But until then I’ll enjoy watching it snow.
