NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS


New Year's resolutions...such a waste of time,
I don't know why we bother...maybe it's a sign
that somewhere in our addled brain we think
we will change
behaviour that throughout the years
we've been unable to rearrange.
Yet year by year like clockwork,
we labor o'er such things
and filled with hopes of miracles,
as that midnight bell rings.
Morning brings elation...a New Year slate so clean,
our hopes are high, we list our goals and begin to set the scene.
Maybe just a week's gone by...or two or three or four,
not only can't we find our list...we've lost interest like before.
Sometimes we try to resurrect the things we set to do,
but by this time our resolute isn't so brand new...
Those habits that we deemed so "bad"
we justify once more,
by March those resolutions are swept right out the door.
Now we make a new one...no resolutions...no, not one,
we won't go through this guilt again..it sure ain't been fun!
Then New Year's eve our "eyes" turn back to scan our days gone by,
the good seems small, that bad so tall...I've always wondered "why?"
Again the slate before us, looks new and oh, so clean...
again resolutions come....of things we seldom mean.
Last years resolutions....my list was very clear
will once again be dusted off...to be used again THIS YEAR!
