River Livin'

Down by the river on a warm summer night

I watched a white bird on his winged flight

to follow the river in its rippling flow

his destination I did not know.

A hoot owl called but a mystery was he

as he stayed hidden in his own big tree.

The fish were jumping

or maybe a frog?

A splash in the water as he hopped from his log.

The air is sultry, a storm's on the way

as I sit by the river at the end of the day.

A soft breeze is stirring as it plays through my hair,

Cooling my skin and my feet that are bare.

A new adventure...I feel so blessed!

My new home on the river...a fine place to rest.

Summer is waning but night critters abound

Filling the air with a wilderness sound.

Lightning is flashing, thunder grumbling low,

Reluctantly rising, it's time to go.

But I'll keep coming back don't ya know

Unfolding my chair where I sat

And you can just call me the

River Rat.
