Fishin' Time

(Poem by my father---Bonnie)

The ground was very icy, and frozen very thick.
To get a can of fish worms, I had to use a pick!
Went down to the river behind the bank so high,
I swore I'd catch a fish if I had to stay 'til July!
I fished a half a day or more, 'til the sun was in the west,
I didn't catch a darn thing, but I fished my very best!
Now it's kind of silly and almost a crime,
To go a fishin' before it's fishin' time.

This poem was written by my Dad when he was about 10 yrs. old...that would be about 86 years ago!! (He died 35 yrs. ago and his brother discovered he had this poem tucked away about 10 yrs. ago and I was thrilled to get it!)
