This Is the Way

I always thought to walk with God
meant He would lead the way.
I thought that I'd come from behind
as He walked before me day by day.

Then in His Word He told me,
whichever way I turn,
to left or right--no matter,
from behind His voice is heard.
He drew for me a picture
and placed it in my mind,
and showed me I can go astray
if I just follow from behind.

He wants me there before Him,
in His sight for Him to see,
so left or right that I may go,
He will always speak to me.

And whatever ear I turn about,
I'll know which path is lit,
for I hear His voice behind me saying....
"This is the way, walk in it."

He goes before me to light my path yet as my Shepherd, He comes behind me to whisper His directions.
