My Heartbeat Knows...

Don't walk so close...my heartbeat knows your footsteps.
I hear a soft sigh and know it belongs to me.
Your words tumble into the softest part of my being,
There to roar like the waves of the sea.

Don't say you love me...my heartbeat knows your lies.
I turn the pages and the story is the same.
Your face is lost in the shadows of many,
Makes no difference your name.

Don't ask me to dance...my heartbeat has no rhythm,
For its beating has turned to stone.
Your arms hold no tender meaning,
You hold me and I dance alone.

Don't walk away...my heartbeat cries in silence,
Shadows lengthen and loneliness echoes strong.
Take my hand and play this game with me...
For a little while, to play our song.
