How can I tell you that you are my friend?
How can I tell you so you'll understand?
We seldom visit and I may not call,
So how can we be friends at all?

There's distance between us, more than mere miles,
For your world and mine, well...they're different in styles.

But most Sundays I see you a few pews away,
And together we worship and sing and pray.
When service is over I may slip out the door,
A week will go by 'til I see you once more.

Each Sunday I'm always watching for you
As I search out each face in every pew.
Somehow the service is a bit incomplete
If your familiar face isn't in your usual seat.

But He Who lives in me...and in you,
Keeps our hearts in touch all the week through.

So wherever God sends us, our spirit is one,
Joined in our hearts through Jesus the Son.
No distance can hinder, nor time rushing by
Can lessen our friendship or sever the tie.

We're friends in the Spirit, even when we're apart,
Tho' miles be between us...we're still heart to heart.
