October Beckons

October Beckons

(a Cornish sonnet)

October beckons me in burnished hues
when copper kettle woodlands hold my gaze,
and fire up from kindling, my muse
which stirs as though the rustling trees, I hear;
the forest flame-lit bright and all ablaze
now to my eyes and thoughts, beams very clear.

It is as though I'm warmed beside a fire
of cozy cabin friendliness that calls
with windows deep into Autumnal shires,
gold gilded as a treasure in the sun.
I search for ample words and what befalls
holds ember-fast like sky 'fore day is done.

October beckons me in burnished hues;
it is as though I'm warmed beside a fire...
