Those Forty Days

Jesus was baptized in the River Jordan –

“This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased”

Spirit descended in blessing – not pardon –

Then for forty days, by the devil was teased.

Jesus’ submission to the Holy Spirit

As He guided Him into the vast wilderness,

Was being displayed here – oh let us hear it –

As Satan tempted Jesus in cruelness.

Jesus did not grumble nor complain or cry.

He did not strike Satan dead, used only The Word.

Then to tempt Jesus, Satan would try and try,

But Christ has strength of which Satan has just heard.

The WORD won’t allow me just relax in sin.

With the Spirit’s help I can be transformed by IT.

Jesus understands and He will help me win.

The battle is His – He can save from the pit!
