There Were Some People I Knew...

There Were Some People I Knew…

There were some people I knew way back when.

I suppose at one time, they were called, “friends.”

For whatever reason, we had parted our ways.

I hadn’t seen them for a number of days.

And then one day, I was really surprised!

I seen them I the store, before my eyes!

I asked how they were doing.  What I heard was sad.

Things in their life had been going pretty bad.

The guy was almost blind.  His wife was distraught.

They had lost their home that they recently bought.

They were losing just about everything they owned.

And were gong to have to move from their home.

I told them, “I wish I could have been there to help you.”

“But it’s been so many years since I’ve seen you.”

I thought about the memories that at one time we shared.

But when we parted ways, no one seemed to care.

If Jesus treated us the way we treat each other.

Who would be around to truly “love one another?”

Are we too quick to drop someone at the, “drop of a hat?”

And not be there for them when “their life is off track?”

Didn’t Christ want us to love those deemed, “unlovable?”

Are we to be his example? And be “forgivable???”

Thank God that in spite of our faults, he doesn’t forsake us!

No matter what you’ve done.  He’s always with us!

May we be careful of those we choose to “cast out.”

But learn what true healing and love is all about!

The person  you once “discarded” may need you some day.

What are you going to do?

 What will you say???

About the Poet
I and my wife have 4 grown children and currently live in the Pacific Northwest. I've spent much of my life doing volunteer work in the food distribution for the needy among local churches. Many of the poems I've written are a reflection of times of adversity as a reminder of God's love and faithfulness. I've found many opportunities to share my poems with those who are hurting and discouraged. I'm thankful for the reports of many of the poems touching people's lives. I hope that the poems included on Wordchimes will touch and bless your life too!
