The Canary and the Starling

The Canary and the Starling

The canary sang with a joyful voice,
tho caged, he chose to rejoice!
In his cage the starling whined,
moaned and groaned while confined.
the canary in his situation
cheerfully lived with expectation.
resting peacefully day and night
trusting the Lord in his plight!

The starling struggled to get out
filled with only fear and doubt!
no rest could he ever find,
no joy, hope or peace of mind.
he broke his wings in desperation
resulting in more frustration.

It is much the same for you and I,
we rest in Christ or moan and cry!
Our faith in Jesus is the key
that unlocks the cage and sets us free.

NOTE:  I was inspired by an analogy story by eighteenth century minister and author Laurence Sterne.

About the Poet
Christian since 1973, widowed in 2007, but by the divine appt. of God, I married a wonderful, godly widower in Oct. 2010. Three grown, married sons and eight grandchildren. My first love is Jesus who inspires my pen, for apart from Him I can do nothing! I desire to honor the Lord and edify readers thru poetry He inspires.
