Swallowtails

Swallowtails

Late September without my knowing,

Twelve caterpillars came to town.

They stopped to eat my parsley plants,

A full month stayed around.

All twelve soon changed for winter's sleep,

Their colors disappeared.

They hung suspended, motionless,

Without life, so I feared.

When April came,

God's work was done.

Revealing new creations,

They took their bow, the old coat gone.

Proud of life's new station.

They did not fret, weep or groan,

They did not think it strange.

God had worked behind the scene,

His will, the lovely change.

*This is a true story. I brought the cocoons to school and they became beautiful Black Swallowtails.

About the Poet
I've been a Christian for over 40 years and am continually thankful for Jesus' friendship and care. I'm married and have three grown children. I also have two grandsons and three granddaughters. Praise God! My prayer is that God would use these simple poems to encourage you in your walk with the Lord.
