A Country Morning Drive

A Country Morning Drive

Mirage-like here before my gaze,
I harken to the morning haze
across the fields, distantly-
looming opaque from lee to lee.

Tree-tops of pine trees frame the view
o're thriving crops enlaced with dew
that sunlight soon will dry away
in onward movement of the day.

There's echoes of a cawing crow;
there's rustling of the trees that blow
within the wind's eternal force-
within God's plan and certain course.

The haze is slightly lifting now;
it touches on the earth's cloud brow
enlightened by the firy sun
within this hallowed day begun.

The corn is nearly six feet tall
reminding me how soon the Fall
will decorate from lee to hill
and change the summer heat to chill -

my favorite season soon to be,
and I shall wait expectantly
to see the blazen leaves adorning
this very road, one early morning...
