Awakening
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 1 time

By Lucia Kiersch Haase
Other Poems by Lucia Kiersch Haase

A dawning stillness captures ease-

a cooing dove - the buzzing bees-

the quiet beauty of the flowers-

the cricket songs of early hours....

a peaceful blessing to begin

the day, and as I take it in,

heard once again in morn's refrain-

the sound of time - a distant train...

(When I wake up early, the first thing I do is lift the shade and the window a bit and look out to the garden flowers and bird feeder and just listen and enjoy the peace.  We live within walking
distance of the Illinois River where there's sometimes a train going by and the sound echoes
throughout the valley here.  These were observances yesterday morning.)
