October Dawning

October Dawning

Mirage-like basked in morning mist,

a field of fallowed corn

appears to float in air, dew-kissed

upon this new day born.

In season's chill, as wind comes 'round

a rustling can be heard

concordant with the hallowed song

of one bold early bird.

Beyond the field, a golden glow

proclaims a coming light,

then sends out rays in lambent flow

that stretch through foggy white

and on to woodland's steepled trees

stilled quietly in prayer,

'till suddenly a joyous breeze

sends leaves of praise in air...
