My Welcome Guests

My Welcome Guests

A nest was built upon our porch-
so high upon a beam;
the carolina chickadees
had caused here quite a scene.

I watched the builders build and build;
with branches, they did toil-
with paper, cardboard, cloth and bags,
and even bits of foil.

Then soon, the nest became a home
as baby chicks would cry
while mother searched to find them food
and father soared in sky.

Then oh so soon, they all had left,
but I just left it be...
this nest that was a work of art-
they might return, 'let's see.'

And sure enough, last month I heard
a bustling 'round the nest;
the chickadees are back again!...
and they're my welcome guests!
