My Being's Door

My Being's Door

(a kyrielle poem)

The buoy-loud clanging out at sea-
the cries of terns so yearningly,
re-echo back to me on shore-
and knock upon my being's door.

The fishermen upon the beach-
the One to follow who will teach
throughout the age-old corridor-
here knocks upon my being's door.

The living water's depth and flow,
the waves that beckon me...I know!-
'Tis He - the One that I adore...
who knocks upon my being's door.

(Revelation 3:20..."Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens
the door, I will come in and eat with him and him with me.")

(Matthew 4:19..."Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.")

(The kyrielle is written in couplets.  There are a number of possible rhyme schemes constructed
 in quatrains, including   a a b B,  c c b B, and d d b B.  Capital letters signify the refrain.  In the
original French kyrielle, lines were octosyllabic.  In English, they are generally iambic tetrameter.)
