J is for just keep smiling (an endearing charming one)
O is for our first grandchild (on both sides of the family)
S is for speeding on Interstate 70N
H is for high IQ (sometimes too smart for his own good)
U is for usually quiet unless he is with his peers
A is for an all right guy who has an all right girlfriend

That is grandson, Joshua,
Will he be like his namesake,
A leader of men?
Or musician extraordinaire with his own musical flair?
Or a quiet philosopher, a writer, a teacher, a scholar
of sorts?
Whatever he chooses may it be in God's will
Whatever he does may Jesus be in it still

Author's note: Dedicated to Joshua Sherman on his completion of high school.

JOSHUA (an acrostic)(c)2002 Quentin Clingerman
