It stands forlorn a stoic wheelchair in the corner
Ignored hopefully never used - for it has my name upon it.

Swirling with music they square dance by couples in their
Playing basketball up and down the gym floor in their
Racing with the wind seeing who can go fastest on smooth terrain in their wheelchairs
Young disabled do their thing letting the world know
there is no place for destructive self pity

Sitting in long halls in isolation geriatric patients
are imprisoned in their wheelchairs
Some in dementia not knowing who or where they are-those are the fortunate ones
Others all too alert must endure the humiliation of dependency and of often being ignored
These are the elderly handicapped whose aging and/or disease
have made days and nights unceasingly lonely and inconsolable in their wheelchairs

Thank God for wheelchairs
Thank God for those who share time with those who
involuntarily use them
Thank God for those professional caregivers who have the compassion to also care, not just treat them all alike
Thank God those in wheelchairs will one day be free of them
forever in eternity
May they be with Him

The wheelchair symbol of hope for the young
Separation and loneliness for the elderly
