The Cross

The Cross
Symbol of both hope and loss
Christ crucified made it the way
In obedience to the Father's will
To the Father and will be to Heaven one day
The Son of Man, Son of God Incarnate
Stretched between Earth and Heaven
On that fateful date
Darkness fell in solemnity
The veil was rent in two within the holy place
Many graves opened in that city
The working of redemptive grace

The Cross
Not a piece of jewelry for display
Or even on a building set apart
But daily to be carried as mainstay
In the life as horse before the cart
In humility and surrender to the Father's will
Free from the oppression of deadly sin
Worshipping as standing on a faroff hill
Ready Heaven's gates to enter in
But walking still with lowly mind
Until the call comes, "Your time has come."
Sinful world is then left joyously behind!
