Three Went off to War

Three went off to war

Brothers of mine, two older one the youngest

Two in WWII, one in Vietnam

The oldest, Richard, rejected for Air Force because of color blindness

Joined the Army as calvalry

The next oldest, Kermit, enlisted in the Navy

Served on the Carrier, US Franklin

The youngest, Stanley, was in the Army,

Served in Vietnam

Richard was in Europe with the "clean up troops" at the end of the European War

Kermit, stayed at his post on the carrier, though it was nearly sunk off of Tokyo

Stanley served in Vietnam until he was injured unloading supplies

All served well as duty called

All returned home to marry and raise families

I salute them this Veterans Day, the two oldest in memory

They've gone to their final reward

The youngest, active in the American Legion, as well as his church

I honoor them as representative of all who served faithfully in the military

And who serve now.

God bless our servicemen, veterans and active alike
