O What Shallow Lives We Live
Viewed Last 24 Hours: 2 times

O WHAT SHALLOW LIVES WE LIVE

O what shallow lives we live
When we neglect to pray
While others flounder around in sin
We turn the other way
No compassion in our hearts
As Jesus bids us too
But taking care of number one
They are number two

Such is not what our Saviour taught
Follow Me, be fishers of men
Swift we leave the way of the cross
Time and time again
But God does not leave us thus
But woos us by His love
Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven
Look ye to things above

He is the God of second chances
Make that three and four
Why I give today testimony of
Many, many more
And that day, 'twill soon appear
When our work is done
Let me not live for self my Lord
But live for Christ the Son

All those people in my life
As circumstances arise
May I take them all from Thy hand
And press toward the prize
That high calling of God in Christ Jesus
I stand fast in that liberty
Press me into service Lord
So I may live for Thee.

Just a small reflection of
All You've done for me
Points once more to the cross
That cross of Calvary
Fresh the wounds that held You fast
But couldn't keep You down
Three days later You arose
Now wear that Victor's crown

I see the blood, the crimson blood
That blood, shed for me
How foolish for me now to live
As if I am not free
But free to live a slave for Christ
And do His blessed will
Forgive me Lord for second thoughts
When You dost love me still.

I'll make prayer a companion
For it's with You, I commune
Give a sensitive spirit Lord
At morning, night and noon
No more a shallow Christian
Me, myself, and I
Knowing nothing but Christ crucified
'Tis my soul's heart cry

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
