God Help Me To Give Thanks

God Help Me To Give Thanks

God help me to give thanks each day
To Who and What You are
With love beyond all comprehension
For just how much You care
You can take a broken life
And make it sing again
With a song of praise to You
For only You can mend

Now right side up in my living
I know from whence I came
Who once used Your name in cursing
Now I hallow the same
What a Saviour.. Hallelujah
You came to give us new life
And a relationship with God the Father
To have victory over strife

What a love that lifted me
From my hold in miry clay
And set my soul free from sinning
As habitually as it had one day
Praise God for that Higher Ground
Upon which my heart is set
I'm as thrilled as much as I could ever be
That the Lord Jesus Christ I've met

For me He suffered.. where's my thanks?!!!
For I owe Him everything
While I deserved the wrath of God
He took it's severest sting!
So I come to praise You Lord
With my offer of thanksgiving
For You gave me a brand new life
And a reason now for living!

So God help me give thanks today
And a heart to worship afresh
To offer back my life to You
And to live with purposefulness
What a Shepherd is my Lord
So thankful I'm one of His own
One day I'll hear that blessed voice
Who'll call me safely home!

Hallelujah what a Saviour!

About the Poet
I came to know the Lord as my personal Saviour in January of 1972. I was married on Oct 21,1966 to my wife Linda who also loves the Lord. We have ten children and now twenty-four grand children. In Aug 2012 we got the announcement of the birth of our first GREAT grand child (a baby girl). I was thrilled to find others of like precious faith and belief in Jesus Christ. Hallelujah! What a Savior! I am presently living in Champion, Alberta, Canada but we are originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. That is where the poem Canadian Tribute to America was birthed. One Sunday as I walked across the city on my way to church I came to the top of a hill and looked across at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After watching the events of the Sept 11 tragedy it was weighing on my heart and mind and the Lord gave me these words. We came to Calgary and when my oldest daughter saw this poem she said, Dad, whats this? and I said a poem and she replied Dad, thats not a poem , thats a song and she then went to the piano and began to sing and play it. The result of which turned into a song entitled, A Canadian Tribute to America which she recorded on CD. garyjamessmith2005@yahoo.ca
