With Two Hands

With Two Hands

With one hand, he purposely pointed
his assault rifle to the smoking sky;
With the other, he joyfully wiped away
the flowing tears from his bloodshot eyes.

With one hand, he lowered his loaded gun
to the newly freed desert ground;
With the other, he pointed to those
who were celebrating their new freedom all around.

With two hands he embraced his brother,
both free after many oppressive years;
I am an American, He speaks Arabic,
but even I can understand the language
of the two hands finally free
of a cruel ruler's paralyzing fear.

With my two hands hurriedly folded,
I humbly kneel and pray -- In memory
Of those who have given their life
So this far distant country can try
democray's free and liberating ways.
