In Memory of Vince

It was his time and not one minute before,

No one walks too soon through death’s door.

He often stood before it but entrance was denied;

His purpose had to be fulfilled before his life was set aside.

Few knows our purpose; the things God sets for us to do,

We stumble down this road of life and never have a clue.

Vince was no different than me and you.

Vince may have walked right through that door,

Not knowing of his worth;

Not knowing all the lives he’d touched

While treading on this earth.

A Dad is one fine purpose, those girls were meant to be;

He was meant to be their father, God’s purpose, don’t you see?

God’s purpose may not be in great things,

But in the very small…

Things that no one notices or hardly sees at all.

Often, it’s not the things we do that means so very much,

It’s who we are every day that holds that special touch.

We can’t know Vince’s purpose but I suspect that it is true,

Each one of us can name some things he taught me and you.

It may have been his ready smile, his easy laughing way,

Or things that built our patience that sent us off to pray.

It may have been his little quirks those things we shouldn’t do…

Those touched our lives in good ways if you think about it too.

Nonetheless, his work was done, God opened up that door,

Vince’s day was over, he could do no more.

The things that Vince has taught us, be it should or shouldn’t do,

His legacy lives onward, in you and you and you.

Remember, it’s not what we have…… that’s not our destiny,

It’s who we are and how we love that touches you and me.

Remember Vince’s good heart, his easy laughter too,

You’ll find him softly in your thoughts…

In the love he left for you.
