Rainy Days of Summer

Cloudy, rainy summer days, a respite from the sun,

never, ever make me blue, a lull in summer fun.

A time out from all projects, that fills my sunny days,

to sit and watch the rain come down, a regrouping phase.

It's kinda like a preview of things that lay ahead,

shorter days that dwindle down to Autumn's leaves of red.

Too soon I'll see a winter, filled with cold and snow,

I'll cherish sunny summer days, just because I know...

Soon they'll be behind me, with Autumn's rainy days ahead,

I think of all the summer things that I must put "to bed".

Something in my "inner clock" begins to hunker down,

and stores away for winter, this season's summer sound.

The children on the playground, the crickets in the dark,

the locusts in the treetops, the singing meadowlark.

Motorcycles roaring, mowers steady churn,

chatter of the neighborhood, I hear but can't discern.

So cloudy, rainy summer days, gives pause to think on these,

and help me shift my inner gears to welcome fall with ease.

Sunny days of summer, with sun that glares and sears,

these rainy days in August, helps to shift my gears.

Downshifting from this summer pace, I feel my spirit sigh,

ahead another season and time is on the fly.

Autumn with its beauty, with a nip in the air,

waves goodbye to summer with an awesome flair.

I steal myself for winter, prepare myself ahead,

and stave off feet that's draggin', for winters that I dread.

I fill myself with summer's sun, this season overflows,

into a fall that blesses me...and softens winter's snows.
