Get Blessed

They come from a world that we can only imagine.
We come from a world they can't comprehend.
Their days must seem endless,
with their lost independence,
By a malady that we cannot mend.

Some look at you wisely, but most eyes are dim,
And some chatter while others are still.
Some rally to greet you,
some don't want to meet you,
While others you can see are quite ill.

They tell 'long ago' stories that light up their eyes,
they find pleasure that you'll lend them an ear.
Like kids with a penchant
to get your attention,
With gnarled hands they'll draw you near.

Like little children, they'll wait their turn
for my attention...with a big hug and a kiss.
They never change places
(such eager faces!)
And not one would I ever dare miss!

I look forward each visit to play music for them,
I love to bless them by giving my time.
While they're smiling and singing,
and the music is ringing,
They don't know that the blessing is MINE!

Visit the nursing homes and shut-ins....these sweet people are crying for attention. They are wise and funny...and lonely and although it breaks your heart, God will bless you with a peace you can't imagine.
